Hike the Marin Headlands
Cross the bridge and climb Battery Spencer or Hawk Hill for the most iconic Golden Gate photograph on Earth — city, span, and Pacific in one frame.
The inside local's take
Battery Spencer is the closest overlook — 5 minutes uphill from the parking area, and probably the most photographed vantage point of any bridge in the world.
For a longer hike, take the Coastal Trail from Point Bonita Lighthouse to Rodeo Beach — 3.5 miles of cliff-top ocean views ending at a black-sand beach.
Fog forecast matters. On a clear morning the view is stunning; on a foggy afternoon the bridge towers rise out of a white sea — arguably even more magical.
